Day Twelve of our West Coast Road Trip: Golden Gate Bridge and Famous Film Studios

SAN FRANCISCO, CA

HEY STRANGERS!

Once again, our day began in our comfortable waterfront hotel in Oakland, California. We tackled the usual morning routine, getting ourselves ready and packing our belongings back into the trusty car.

Our first destination was just a short drive away, the Bay Street shopping district. As devoted coffee lovers, we couldn’t resist grabbing a cup of joe to kickstart the day. With coffee in hand, we embarked on a leisurely walk, with Pixar Animation Studios as our ultimate goal. We strolled to the studio, taking in the surroundings, and walked the perimeter. We couldn’t resist snapping a few photos in front of the iconic entrance sign and even managed to steal a glimpse through the fence, catching sight of the Steve Jobs Building, the heart of the Pixar campus, along with the larger-than-life Luxo Jr. and the playful Luxo ball statues.

After soaking in the creative vibes and inspiration oozing from the Pixar campus, we made our way back to Bay Street for a bit of light shopping and a delicious lunch stop at Shake Shack.

Our adventure was far from over as we crossed the bay into the bustling city of San Francisco. Here, we found ourselves navigating the steep, iconic streets that seem to defy gravity. It’s quite the experience when you’re tilting down each street, your rearview mirror filled with nothing but sky.

Despite the typical urban chaos, we found our way to the Presidio park area. Here, we parked up and peered through the windows of the currently closed Walt Disney Family Museum. One day, we’ll have the chance to explore its treasures.

We continued our journey, wandering down the picturesque paths of Presidio until we reached our next stop – Lucasfilm. This renowned studio is responsible for legendary franchises like Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Nestled within the park, we circumnavigated the campus, marveling at the Porgs and Stormtroopers adorning the office windows. Our adventure led us to the famous Yoda statue fountain, and we couldn’t resist sneaking inside. The staff was welcoming but firm about the rules; we could admire the lobby’s statues, props, and artifacts but limited photography was allowed. We spent a captivating 15 minutes immersed in the world of Star Wars, even spotting some famous Lucasfilm producers.

With our time at Lucasfilm coming to an end, we bid a fond farewell and retraced our steps through the picturesque Presidio park. We ventured further in until we stumbled upon the Golden Gate Bridge lookout, a breathtaking spot to admire this iconic red behemoth and capture some stunning photos.

Leaving the city behind, we embarked on an exciting journey across the Golden Gate Bridge ourselves. Continuing for several hours northward, we finally landed in the charming town of Eureka, located on the Northern California coast. We were ready for our next adventure: exploring Redwood National Park and meandering along the scenic Oregon Coast.

At this stage it’s starting to feel like the trip is coming to a close. Although this doesn’t stop us from reflecting on the incredible journey we’ve had this far!

Our adventure isn’t over yet, so be sure to stay tuned for the latest updates on our Instagram and YouTube channels!
