Day Eleven of our West Coast Road Trip: San Francisco’s Steep Streets and Sweet Treats

SAN FRANCISCO, CA

HEY STRANGERS!

Good day, fellow adventurers! Jake and Georgia checking in for Day Eleven of our West Coast road trip, and today we woke up in the comfort of our waterfront hotel in Oakland, ready to tackle the vibrant city of San Francisco.

Our day began with a coffee pit stop, a morning ritual we cherish. Then, it was off to the ferry boat, a 45-minute journey that would drop us right into the heart of the City by the Bay.

Stepping off the ferry, we were immediately greeted by the steep streets of San Francisco. Our destination: Union Square, where we indulged in some window shopping and admired the upscale stores. From there, we embarked on an uphill trek to Coit Tower.

Now, let’s fill you in on Coit Tower – a historic landmark offering panoramic views of the city. Perched atop Telegraph Hill, it’s known for its distinctive art deco architecture and stunning vistas of San Francisco.

After taking in the city from above, we embarked on a delightful downhill stroll towards the waterfront. Our next stop was Pier 39, a hub of shops filled with quirky souvenirs and tourist treasures. We couldn’t resist grabbing a drink at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. – you know, just like Forrest Gump!

Following our refreshing break, we headed to Fisherman’s Wharf for a taste of San Francisco’s culinary scene. At the renowned Bourdin bakery, we devoured their famous sourdough bread bowls. I opted for beef chili, while Georgia savored crab chowder by the bay.

Our journey continued to Ghirardelli Square, the original home of Ghirardelli chocolate. Here, we marveled at a mesmerizing chocolate waterfall, enjoyed a complimentary sample of their delectable sea salt caramel square, and indulged in a hot fudge sundae while basking on the beach.

Our next stop was back at Pier 39, where we watched the famous sea lions lounging on the piers. Little did we know, they were practicing their flirting skills before venturing out to sea in search of love.

In a spontaneous move, we hopped aboard a 30-minute harbor tour on a charming little boat. We got up close and personal with the sea lions and were treated to a sunset spectacle featuring the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island.

As nighttime descended upon the city, we strolled back to the ferry, reflecting on a day well spent.

From our adventure in San Francisco, we’ve learned that we’ll be back for more, with exciting plans to explore Alcatraz and visit the Walt Disney Family Museum.

Tomorrow, our journey leads us to famous film studios, some shopping, and sightseeing before we continue up the coast towards the enchanting Redwood National Park. Stay tuned for the next chapter of our road trip!
